Meet Alex Matterson, our new BDU

Meet Alex Matterson, our new Business Development Underwriter.

Bringing 10 years of insurance experience to HMIA, Alex is passionate about underwriting and risk. He tells us: ‘After my first role in insurance, I developed a real interest in underwriting and risk.
Building my skills and knowledge has been my goal ever since.’

He was drawn to heavy motor insurance, having grown up with a family who works in construction: ‘the trucking industry in Australia is always growing, and I’ve always had an interest in it.’

Alex particularly enjoys getting to know the industry’s brokers. ‘I’m determined to work hard for them. I love analysing the different types of risk.’

HMIA’s future direction was particularly appealing for Alex. ‘After meeting with the management team, and learning their ideas, I felt it was a great fit for me. I’m hoping to be part of HMIA’s team for many years to come.’

Alex’s dedication to his work is truly impressive, so we wanted to know who his biggest inspiration has been.

‘My Dad. He has worked hard and continues to work hard to provide a good life for my brother and I. That’s what I want to do with my family.’

And when he’s not working hard in the office, you’ll find Alex working hard on the pitch. It turns out our latest recruit is quite the baseball player, too.

‘I’m part of a baseball team called The Greenway Giants. We’ve won three premierships in four years!’
