Merry Christmas from HMIA
December 21, 2021What can your client expect from HMIA’s claims process?
August 4, 2022Risk management is vitally important for the effective functioning and sustainability of every heavy transport logistics operation. It is key to reducing risks, keeping your client’s employees safe and protecting their property.
Risk management is a continuous process, and it is critical for transport operators to take a proactive approach to their risk management processes and procedures, to ensure they are able to maintain a highly effective safety culture.
Below are a few things your clients can focus on as part of effective risk management:
- Review of internal systems.
It is timely with the change of financial year, for transport operators to review internal risk and safety systems such as satellite location and speed tracking hardware & software, driving event recording camera & fatigue management systems and technology, as well as undertaking analyses of ‘near miss’ incidents to tighten up relevant processes and procedures as part of an overall accident prevention strategy.
- Driver education and training.
A focus on thorough processes and procedures particularly in relation to driver recruitment, selection, induction and on-going training, can reduce the risk of accidents that may occur due to poor driver performance. Driver training and education needs to be continuous and driver monitoring and performance based feedback can be very effective in reducing risks across the operational component of the business.
- Vehicle preventative maintenance.
Having a scheduled and regular maintenance program can ensure that vehicles perform at optimum levels and can reduce the risk of mechanical failures through identifying issues early before they contribute to incidents and accidents. Preventative maintenance is a valuable tool for ensuring fleet reliability, reduction of running costs and can contribute to safer roads overall.
