The HMIA Difference
May 8, 2024Despite recently celebrating 10 years of issuing heavy motor vehicle insurance cover for brokers and their clients, the last 12 months has seen the HMIA team busy as ever planning for the decade to come.
We sat with General Manager, Louie Gorevski to understand more…
It seems like there’s a whirlwind of activity in the business, can you tell us a little more about that?
The last 12 months have been a period of significant, but exciting change in our business. Alongside business-as-usual activities, we’ve launched new offices and have significantly increased our staff count across the country.
These critical building blocks ensure the achievement of desired service levels across our existing portfolio, whilst supporting our growth aspirations.
Has the expansion created challenges?
Pushing the boundaries always comes with challenges, but we are lucky to have a committed and experienced team who believe in our mission. Our people have always been our strength, nothing we do is possible without them.
Specifically, though, the logistics of setting up new offices and finding the right staff for those locations have been our biggest hurdles. Culture is the cornerstone at HMIA, and getting it right takes time and tenacity, especially when the bar is set as high as we set it.
So, there must be some big plans set and goals to achieve?
You could say that! The ultimate goal is to grow market share whilst continuing to provide exceptional service; these two go hand in hand. We are intent on making it as seamless as possible for brokers and their customers to engage with us.
Our vision is clear, and we bring it to life through three non-negotiables in everything we do. The first is engineering and providing a service that strives to exceed brokers’ expectations; secondly, to grow a culture within the business that results in engaged team members, and thirdly, integrity. The latter underpins everything.
What excites you most about the future of HMIA?
It’s hard to narrow it down; there is a real feeling of excitement for what the next decade holds.
We will be taking our offering to brokers that haven’t had exposure to our product in the past, a new frontier. Alongside this, we will be deploying processes that add value to our existing brokers and clients.
Trucking and heavy vehicles are such an ingrained part of Australian’s day to day life and knowing that our team plays an important part in protecting this is immensely gratifying.
What can brokers and their customers expect from HMIA in the future?
We look forward to realising the benefits of investment with the way we interact with brokers and their clients. Technology is an important tool but will never take the place of relationships and personal service.
Our service enhancement roadmap will simplify non-value-added functions by providing smarter ways to conduct policy binding, endorsements and claims services. This will free up our people to focus on meaningful collaboration.
Ultimately, it’s about keeping the wheels turning, whilst striking the right balance between arranging the right coverage at the most competitive cost possible.
